Saudi Arabia has limited the participation of the 2020 edition of the Hajj to only Muslims that are currently residing in the country.
This decision has been taken in view of respecting the international measures put in place to curb the propagation of the novel coronavirus and to protect the Muslim community according to the doctrines of Islam.
“The Hajj will "take place this year with a limited number of pilgrims from all nationalities residing in Saudi Arabia only, who are willing to perform Hajj.
This decision is taken to ensure Hajj is safely performed while committing to all preventive measures to protect Muslims and adhere strictly to the teachings of Islam in preserving our health and safety," Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said.
Muslims in Cameroon as in other states out of Saudi Arabia will not travel to the Holy land of Mecca for a physical participation in the 2020 edition of the Hajj.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, President of the National Hajj Commission Paul Atanga Nji had earlier prohibited the collection of funds for the registration of pilgrims due to uncertainties brought about by the global coronavirus pandemic.
The outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in the world has affected the holding of many events at the national and international levels.
The date for the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca however remains unchanged and will take place from 28 July to 02 August 2020.
