Ousted president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir is facing court trials over his role in the 1989 coup d'état in Sudan that brought him to power.
76-year-old al-Bashir began his trial session on Tuesday 21 July 2020 in Khartoum.
However, the proceedings have been adjourned to 11 August 2020 by the presiding Judge, Essam El-dein Mohammad Ibrahim on claims of failing to implementing COVID-19 safety measures.
Among 27 others prosecuted over a coup against the constitutional system, only 16 appeared in court with al-Bashir included.
Already serving a two-year sentence at a correctional facility on corruption charges and illegitimate possession of foreign currency, Omar al-Bashir is expected to appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He was arrested in April 2019 and jailed in December 2019 following months of precedented protests in the country that led to the end of his over 30 years of repressive leadership.
If found guilty, the 76-year-old Omar al-Bashir accused of piloting the killing of over 300,000 people between 2003 and 2008 in his military campaign in Darfur will be given a death sentence.
