Mali’s former president Moussa Traore is no more.
He died on Tuesday 15 September 2020 at the age of 84.
Moussa Traoré launched the first coup d’état in Mali in 1968 and, he dies at a time when the country is facing a socio-political crisis that forced president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita to resign on 18 August 2020.
The Economic Community of West African state (ECOWAS) urges the military junta led by Colonel Assimi Goita to set up a transition government headed by civilians; President and Prime Minister.
Born on 25 September 1936, Moussa Traore succeeded in ousting President Modibo Keita who is considered the father of independence of Mali but, he was also overthrown in 1991 following a military coup. He was later given a death sentence until 2002 when he was pardoned by president Alpha Oumar Konare.
Moussa Traore ruled Mali from 1968 to 1991.
