Mr. Bah Ndaw has been appointed  to head the transition government in Mali after the forceful resignition of former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Mr. Ndaw, 70, is a former defence minister of Mali. He will lead the transition government for 18 months while the country prepares for Presidential election.

IBK’s resignation

Ibrahim boubacar Keita was forced to resign on state media on 18 August 2020 in a military coup d'état.

The Putschists raided and took captive of him and his Prime Minister and he was later forced to announce his resignation on the national television.

IBK's mandate had been strongly  criticized by Malians and the opposition leaders for corruption claims, the mismanagement of the economy and electoral disputes that  led to a series of mass protests in the country spearheaded by the M5 movement to the point of his resignation.

The coup d’état was condemned by regional and other international bodies.
