The newly appointed transitional president of Mali has taken office after being officially sworn in on Friday 25 September 2020.
President Bah Ndaw promises to lead the people of Mali to a peaceful transition to civilian rule.
He was sworn in along side his vice Colonel Assimi Goita, leader of the military junta in Mali.
Mr. Bah Ndaw was chosen by the military junta to lead the transitional government for a period of 18momths till elections are held.
70-yrar-old Bah Ndaw, a former Minister of defence comes in as interim president of Mali following the depose of former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in a military coup on 18 August 2020.
The ousting of former president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has been condemned at both the international and regional levels, with sanctions been levied on Mali by some regional blocs such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
While many suspected that ECOWAS will unplug it’s sanctions against Mali as they come up with a civilian president, ECOWAS's president Jean-Claude Brou still maintains that the sanctions against the landlocked Mali would only be lifted once a civilian Prime Minister is appointed.
