The African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council has lifted the suspension imposed on Mali on August 19 following the ousting of former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

The “Republic of Mali is authorized to participate fully in all activities of the African Union,” wrote the AU security organ on its official Twitter account.

These sanctions included among others, the closure of border, a ban on commercial trade and financial flows but not basic necessities such as drugs, coronavirus personal protective equipment, fuel or electricity.

This decision comes after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) lifted its sanctions on the West African country.

Mali is currently under a transitional government led by former Minister of defence, Bah Ndaw with Colonel Assimi Goita as his vice.
