A university in Burkina Faso has been inaugurated after the name of Thomas Sankara. This is one more step in the rehabilitation of Thomas Sankara's memory after a statue of him was previously installed.

The Ouaga II campus as from this Thursday 15 October 2020 will be called the Thomas Sankara University.

The Thomas Sankara University is built on 1,800 hectare and is composed of amphitheatres and classrooms with 13,000 seats, offices and a sports center.

Students have expressed their satisfaction following this honorary action and hope that they be molded in the likes of Thomas Sankara.

“Thomas Sankara, it is not only the name, Thomas Sankara, it is in the acts. This is what we are going to learn. We hope that our trainers, our various managers, will perhaps put this into practice" one of the students said joyfully.

Another student sees him as a model not just for the young Burkinabes but for the whole of African youths and young people all over the world

“He is a model to emulate, not only for the young people of Burkina Faso, but for the young Africans, for the young people all over the world” said a student.

While hoping that the newly inaugurated university awakens the “Sankaras” in them.

This other student wishes that their teacher also train them as much as possible so that they become Sankaras of their time.

The Minister of Higher Education has already announced the establishment of a teaching and training module in the ideals and values defended by Thomas Sankara within this university.
