Muslims in Cameroon may not be participating in the 2020 edition of the Hadj, a pilgrimage to the Holy land of Mecca.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, President of the National Hadj Commission Paul Atanga Nji has prohibited the collection of funds for the registration of pilgrims as uncertainties surround the participation of Cameroon due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has led to the restriction of movements and border closures.
However, the Muslim community in Cameroon are reminded that the National Hadj Commission remains in permanent contact with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Cameroon, and the Embassy of Cameroon in Saudi Arabia, and that they will be informed of the evolution of the situation in due course.
The outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in the world has affected the holding of many events at the national and international levels.
Cameroon is one of the countries in the world directly affected by the Coronavirus with over 8,000 cases registered.
This has led to the closures of international borders among other measures put in place to curb the propagation of the virus.
The date for the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca however remains unchanged and will take place from 28 July to 02 August 2020.
